The Post Pandemic world has acted as a spring board for the inquisitive traveler to once again fall in love with unique and engaging destinations.  The intrepid traveler felt incarcerated by nature venting her wrath. However, with Mother Nature having taught her lesson to mankind, has now returned to her benevolent best. For the seeking travel pilgrim, the whole world is now their oyster, and, we are here to help you make a pick. Whatever may be the theme of your travel, there would always be an engaging as well as an enriching destination to visit. Talking of themes, why do I not deal with some of the popular travel refrains? 

1. South Africa 

1.a. Johannesburg

Man and nature had combined to create several iconic sites that perhaps are a must for the globe trotter. Johannesburg and Cape Town would attract travelers at a heartbeat.  Founded on the gold rush of the 19th century, and, besides being an economic powerhouse, Johannesburg is a city of contrast that brings to the fore the city’s diverse ethnicity and culture as manifested in its culture, traditions, arts and food. The contrast is also ostensible in the juxta-positioning of affluent mansions to shanty towns. Perhaps, this disparity was the genesis of the apartheid regime. Venues as the Constitution Hill, Apartheid Museum and Liliesleaf Farm narrate a tale of these tumultuous years. Johannesburg is a city with deep roots in its past, but, yet, forward-looking and willing to embrace the future. 

1.b. Cape Town

Wedged between the Atlantic Ocean, the Indian Ocean and Table Mountain, Cape Town is one of the most iconic destinations in South Africa. With its scenic beauty, multi-racial culture and Mediterranean weather, Cape Town is an irresistible charm. Climbing Table Mountain on foot or aboard a cable car is an incredibly rewarding experience that offers panoramic views across the mountains, city and oceans. 

1.c. Kruger National Park

The Kruger National Park offers an ultimate safari experience in South Africa. Not only is it the oldest and the biggest, the vegetation as well as the game is most varied. Actually, Kruger affords the possibility of viewing the Big Five of Africa (leopard, lion, Cape buffalo, elephant and black rhino). The varied ecosystems permits you to experience unique flora and fauna.

1.d. Victoria Falls

1.g. Panorama Route 

The magnificent Panorama Route is one of South Africa’s, and, the world’s great natural wonders. This is one of the world’s most picturesque driving routes.

2. Kenya

Kenya with its diverse vegetation and grasslands is all that one can hope for in a safari destination. It is a country with rich cultural heritage and stunning natural beauty. Located in East Africa, it is home to over 53 million people from over 40 different ethnic groups. Kenya's world-renowned tourist attractions, such as the Maasai Mara National Reserve, Mount Kenya, and the Great Rift Valley, attract visitors from all over the world.

2.a. Amboseli

Amboseli National Park (Emeralds Of East Africa LINK) is famous for its great scenic beauty as well as big games such as lion, elephant, and cheetah. The ecosystem varies from grass meadows to clumps of trees, thorny bushes and marsh-lands. All of these regions support a great amount of wildlife as well as birdlife. 

2.b. Masai Mara

Masai Mara Reserve is one of the best-known wildlife reserves in Africa. This is home to significant big game populations. The abundance of meadows forms the perfect habitat for the arrival of millions of wildebeest during the Great Migration. The lodges at Masai Mara are also incredible as they beautifully blend into the nature. 

3. Tanzania

Tanzania along with Kenya, is Africa’s top safari destinations. The wildlife viewing is incredible as the game almost approach you. The Big Five of Africa are found in various Tanzanian parks and reserves. They are present in the Ngorongoro Crater and Serengeti National Park

3.a. Ngorongoro Crater

The Ngorongoro crater is a perfect habitat for enjoying game drives in search of the famous Big Five. This is the best venue to see critically endangered black rhino. The Crater is unique that in its small area you get to see all the animals that are found in Africa. 

3.b. Serengeti

Serengeti National Park is one of the most famous and incredibly well-endowed game reserve. No matter how high your expectations are on the great migration, the Serengeti never disappoints in real life. Every year, nearly two million wildebeest serpentine their way across the plains looking for rain. Accompanied by braying zebras, an unending procession is formed that goes for miles. Even though the migration is the greatest attraction of the Serengeti, but, it would be a folly to overlook photography the lions, cheetah, leopards and a variety of antelopes and deer besides other game. 

4. Rwanda

6. Egypt

Egypt is a country located in North Africa with a rich history dating back thousands of years. It is known for its ancient monuments such as the pyramids of Giza, the Great Sphinx, and the Valley of the Kings. Today, Egypt is a popular tourist destination, attracting visitors from all over the world to explore its fascinating culture, cuisine, and landscapes.

6.a. Abu Simble

Once cannot fathom a greater treasure-house experience than in Egypt. If we are talking about iconic sites of Egypt, how could we overlook Abu Simble? The amazing Sun Temple of Abu Simbel is an incredible testimony of the artistic heights achieved by mankind of the New Kingdom at its imperial heyday. To impress his power and majesty on the Nubians, Ramses (13th and 14th century) created four gigantic statues of himself chiseled from the mountainside and his unmistakable gaze awestruck visitors entering Egypt from Africa. 

6.b. Cairo

For nearly 8 centuries, Cairo has been the beacon light of Africa.  You just need to look beyonf the urban chaos to be rewarded by Cairo’s beautiful mosques, imposing citadels, maze of bazaars, and churches.

6.c. Nile Cruise

The most attractive lure of Egypt is the Nile cruises that ferries inquisitive visitors through Luxor and Aswan along the Nile River.  The river meanders at a gradual pace of affording opportunities to be amazed at the tombs and temples left behind by the Egyptians over the last several years. A highlight of our cruise would also be the opportunity to imbibe the richness of the Nubian civilization. Though, the Nubians were famous for their wealth, culture and military mettle, they are one of the oldest tribes, whose traditions permeated into the Egyptian culture.

7. Morrocco

Morrocco of course is an enigma worth exploring. The iconic city of Ouarzazate is of strategic and historic significance that unfortunately is overlooked by modern architecture. However, Ouarzazate is a base for exploring of the kasbahs, valleys and desert. Actually, Ouarzazate has possesses a few interesting kasbahs too.

7.a. Marrakesh

Marrakesh with its elaborated Andalusian architecture, maze of souqs and ancient streets bustling with people, donkeys, and mules, is a multi-layered city awaiting exploration. Mosques and palaces standing the test of time over centuries bring to the fore the city’s everchanging glorious past. The festival atmosphere of the main public square heaves with life as snake charmers and dancersadd to the colour and enjoyment of the crowd.

7.b. Casablanca

Casablanca in Morrocco offers a resplendent and uniqueness of whitewashed Moorish buildings that strewn out from the coastline. Of course, overtime, tower blocks and French colonial architectural styles have found expression too. Dominating everything else, the Hassan II Mosque is one of the largest mosques in the world. Actually, the minaret of the mosque reaches at astounding feet of almost 700ft. 

7.c. Dades

You will love the Dades Valley . It is on the main route that connects the desert and the ancient trading city of the Tafilalt. On the northern side of the route, from Todra, dramatic views of the gorge splitting the mountainside can be had. Arguably, this is Morrocco’s signature natural sight accompanied by a gradual stream. 

7.d. El-Kelaa M'Gouna

For the adventurer and for the inquisitive traveler, we would recommend the town of Skoura. You will travel through palm groves, date farms and the town of El-Kelaa M'Gouna, also known as the Valley of the Roses.

7.e. Ait Ben Haddou

 

You'll appreciate the Kasbah of At Benhaddou's seclusion. After an off-road drive past picturesque villages perched on mountain slopes, it is reached. The fact that it was featured in so many Hollywood movies has helped make this Moroccan kasbah the most well-known of all. Aït Benhaddou is one of the most exquisite and well-preserved examples of Atlas fortified architecture exists here.

8. Thailand

Perhaps I should now move eastwards and, quite rightly am starting from Thailand.  Veritably, I should start from Bangkok. The city’s relatively relaxed undertone, easy transport network and ever so hospitable locals make Bangkok a hospitable introduction to Southeast Asia. 

8.a. Chiang Rai

Though once a fabled capital of Thailand, today Chiang Rai is a relaxed and laidback city. Chiang Rai being one of the less visited cities of Thailand affords an opportunity to witness ethnic lifestyles and local life unchanged over times besides visiting some of the smaller markets and historic temples.

8.b. Chiang Mai

Chiang Mai is a cheerful city ensconced between hills and jungles. One would love Chiang Mai’s authentic food, and, a walk through amazing temple ruins. 

8.c. Phuket

Phuket is a fusion of the Chinese, Malaysian, Indian, and Thai cultures that have left their marks on the island, which is located on the marine commerce route between China and India. Residents originally made a fortune from rubber plants and tin mines. It's still the wealthiest region of Thailand because of the allure of its amiably laid-back beaches and crystal-clear waters.

The largest island in Thailand is home to a variety of hotels, from the most opulent to more modest establishments, and is connected to the Thai mainland by a small causeway. Long stretches of beaches are broken up by limestone cliffs and mangrove tree forests. There are still lesser-known spots to explore, despite the fact that it can be fairly commercial.

9. Vietnam

Staying with South East Asia, perhaps, Vietnam is a jewel. Hanoi has been a city of significance for the Chinese, French and Vietnamese for over a 1000 years reflecting a great diversity of architectural styles. The Old Quarter is still somewhat embraced by the original city wall. A walk through the narrow streets would reveal preserve Buddhist temples and places of devotion. The French influence can be found in the villas and mansions of the French Quarter. 

9.a. Ho Chi Minh City or Saigon

Ho Chi Minh City or Saigon was once destroyed by the war, but, is now a thriving modern metropolis. Explore the street-life to witness the old character, French architectural styles, thriving bazaars, and blissful temples. 

9.b. Halong Bay

Watching the limestone pillars at Halong Bay, protrude through the early morning mist, one cannot help marveling at the natural beauty of the place that has a spiritual significance to the local people. No wonder Halong Bays is nominated as a UNESCO World Heritage Centre.

9.c. Hue

From its period as the capital of Vietnam during the Nguyen Dynasty in the 19th century to its role as the focal point of the 1968 Tet Offensive, Hue is still resonant with its historical significance. The city today is proud of its historical landmarks, but it has also served as a hub for the advancement of Vietnamese cuisine, art, and culture.

9.d. Hoi An

Dutch and French colonial homes are crammed in between Chinese tea warehouses and Japanese temples in Hoi An, revealing the town's diverse background. Beside historic canals, there are neighbourhood cafes, museums, and open-fronted stores.

10. Sri Lanka

Sri Lanka or the Emerald Island (Natural and Cultural Splendors of Sri Lanka!! LINk) offers an insatiable lure to the seeking traveler. The Yala National Park (Natural and Cultural Splendors of Sri Lanka!! LINk)  is an iconic natural heritage site of Sri Lanka. In the pre-independence era, the British founded the place as a hunting ground. Today, the grass-meadows and the forests house a significant amount of wildlife, especially leopards. Situated on the South East coast, Yala’s semi-arid climate, its lagoons and beaches harbor a rich diversity of birdlife. 

10.a. Nuwara Eliya

The English influence is most unmistakable in the tea country of Nuwara Eliya. The Tudor’s style architecture and hills covered with tea plantations and the surrounding Horton Plains National Park makes Nuwara Eliya as a unique gem of the Emerald Country of Sri Lanka. 

10.b. Bentota

Steeped in Anglo-Portuguese influence, Bentota on the west coast of Sri Lanka offers long stretches of golden sand fringed by palm trees, the occasional granite outcrop, and little else.

10.c. Polonnaruwa

The second Buddhist capital offers a collection of ancient sites outside the city to help visitors understand what life was like in the past. Awe-inspiring displays of fine craftsmanship can be found in the palaces, imperial structures, and Buddhist sanctuaries in Polonnaruwa. It is difficult to imagine the sculptures are almost a thousand years old given their degree of detail and excellent preservation.

10.d. Sigiriya

You will love climbing them daunting Sigiriya Rock Fortress that overlooks the landscape. This is perhaps Sri Lanka’s most majestic site offering incredible views. 

10.e. Kandy

The most sacred Buddhist relic in the nation is housed in Kandy, the former capital of Sri Lanka, together with botanical gardens, temples, and an artificial lake.

10.f. Galle

The Portuguese built this fort city in the 16th century. This was followed by a 100 years rule of the Dutch who extended the ramparts. Finally, the British added towers, a lighthouse and more structures. However, it is the Sri Lankan archeology department, who have meticulously restored Galle while encouraging a community of artisanal boutiques, cafés and small hotels. Today, the city is spilling over into the local coast and the neighboring hills. Galle is a must see for anyone wanting to experience the fusion of heritage over centuries.
