Frequently Asked Questions

General

Solaris provides a wide variety of adventure options ranging from week long getaways or quick weekend trips. You may also contact Solaris via the Contact Us link above if you don’t see a trip on the website that you would like to take. Do I need travel insurance?

Travel insurance is compulsory for all Intrepid travelers and should be taken out at the time of booking. At a minimum, your travel insurance must provide cover against personal accident, death, medical expenses, emergency repatriation and personal liability, with a minimum coverage of US$200,000. We also strongly recommend it covers cancellation, curtailment and loss of luggage and personal effects. You must provide proof of your travel insurance on the first day of your trip; you will not be able to join the trip without it. If you obtain travel insurance through us you acknowledge that you are satisfied with the level of insurance we have arranged.

How much will my holiday cost?

This one is the million-dollar question. There are some great little deals available because the price of your ticket is always based on the date you leave the country, not on the dates you travel thereafter. For instance – if you look at April, the price drops dramatically mid-month (and this is the case for other months also). So if you are flexible, ask us how we can cut the cost for you.

Can I opt out of certain activities if I want to?

Absolutely. If there are included or optional activities that you don’t wish to participate in, you can do your own thing instead. The exception to this is when we are trekking or travelling from one destination to the next. Please note that if you choose to opt out of an included activity, no reimbursement can be made by us.

Do you offer a discount for children?

We offer discounts for children for most tourist services published on our website. The discount depends on the age of the child and on the type of service being offered. Please see our Booking Information for details. If children of a certain age are prohibited from a particular tour or activity, it will be stated in the package details. Please contact us if you have other questions about travelling with children.

What should I do if I miss my flight?

If you miss your flight, you should immediately notify the airline so that you are not considered a “no show.” The airline can assist you with re-booking on the next available flight. If there is a mechanical problem, delay, canceled flight or missed connection, most airlines will attempt to rebook you on the next available flight at no charge, however, there is no requirement for them to do so at no cost. To help prevent missing your flight, make sure to check your flight status to see if departure times or gates have changed and make sure you have sufficient time between connections.

What about Local Customs and Culture?

Some countries, especially in the Middle East and Asia, dress more conservatively than we do. You shouldn’t wear shorts or sleveless tops in these places, so ensure you have some other forms of clothing packed in your bag. It is also handy to have a long-sleeved top packed in your daypack – places like St Peters Cathedral in Rome require you to cover your arms when entering the building. You don’t want to miss out on the opportunity to see such fabulous places just because you don’t have the right top with you!

Are airport transfers included?

Most of our adventures do not include airport transfers and so we recommend you arrange a taxi on arrival (this is the most economical and efficient way of getting you to your hotel). If you would prefer a pre-arranged transfer these are usually available at an additional cost – please contact us for more information.

How much money should I carry?

Carry just enough money to cover your expenses. Call your bank and let them know you which foreign country you will be using your ATM card. Otherwise, the bank’s theft prevention service may cancel the card thinking it’s been stolen. Also, carry traveler’s checks in the event you don’t have enough local currency to buy something and you can’t use your ATM card. Not all businesses are equipped to take them.
